SWVA TOP 10

My picks for the top 10 teams in southwest va(i'm speaking of all teams within the counties generally regarded around here as southwest va including Tazewell, Russell, Washington, Buchanan, Dickenson, Scott, Wise, Lee and the cities of Norton and Bristol):

1. Richlands...will be really strong again
2. Graham...will challenge in one of state's toughest districts
3. Powell Valley...had them at #2 but may be overrated
4. Tazewell...too bad they will still only be 3rd in their district
5. Gate City...looks to be in position to give a challenge to the vikes
6. Lebanon...gearing up for a nice season
7. Haysi...may be better than some expected(not the first time)
8. Burton...lots of speed to go around
9. Honaker...some young guys but will still be tough
10. Clintwood...see Haysi and Honaker comment, ditto.

Others to watch:
Appalachia...new coach, same attitude
Rye Cove...Always tough to knock off in the CD
Grundy...should get some respect back after last years dismal season...will still most likely finish last in their district.
Va High...haven't heard alot from them going into the season, could surprise.
Twin Valley...don't laugh yet, could end up being the 3rd best team in Reg D div 1.

Re: SWVA TOP 10

Good list. Although, you might want to swap 9 & 10. Seeing how 10 beat 9 in a mistake filled game, that the margin of victory could have actually been larger. Good list though. Nice breakdown as well.

How do you like your new friday night view?

I would maybe throw another team in there since they participate in the SWD, but its had calling them a more local team. Carroll County will be tough, and will challenge for the SWD. Dang fine coach, and the best mannered players you will find who know how to play some football.

Yeah Clintwood could very well end up being better than Honaker, and not just Honaker...I look for both teams to get better as the year goes on. I put some weight into the benefit game but not everything. As far as my new view? Dunno if I will get that view much this year from the way it looks, startin to regret that move a bit...probably be a Joe Schmoe fan at most games this year just like everybody else.

Re: SWVA TOP 10

I hate doing all SWVA teams because of that reason. Most people never even see some of those teams play (Carroll Co., Graham, Tazewell, ect.). I prefer to do all Region D. More people are more familiar with that. Plus you keep classifications together.

It seems like it'd be great, but there's no way you can see good. Plus you have to watch teams you couldn't give a rats patoot about.

Yeah I know about Carroll County...could throw George Wythe and Rural Retreat in there as well but I didn't want to include every team all the way up to Roanoke because you get into having to count Giles, Pulaski County, Salem, etc...Fact is not many people around here know alot about those teams.

Re: SWVA TOP 10

I see Graham, Tazewell and Richlands quite a bit...I've seen Carroll County play just once in my life and I've only seen Giles play twice, both against Haysi in state playoff games. I've never seen Rural Retreat or George Wythe.

I'm talking about the ordinary folks around here though. Most of them never leave their comfort zone.

Re: SWVA TOP 10

You are probably right...on the BDD forum they did a top 10 in the Region D and several teams toward the bottom were kinda average at best...probably could do a Top 5 in region D and have a pretty good list.
